Fiè allo Sciliar, the spa town at the foot of South Tyrol’s symbolic mountain

A charming mix of culture, delightful cuisine and natural wellness

With its valley vineyards and Alpine meadows above the tree line, the picturesque village of Fiè allo Sciliar boasts an impressive range of vegetation zones. Long ago, this former summer health resort at the foot of the Alpe di Siusi, popular with the Bolzano locals, developed into a spa town. Popular activities include getting wellness treatments at the traditional hay bath and swimming in the local lake. Fiè also has cultural and culinary highlights on offer. Connoisseurs enjoy not only the “Kuchlkastl”, a local culinary initiative, and the Törggelen wine tasting, which both take place in October, but also the regional products and prize-winning, locally produced wines which are available all year round. Guests interested in cultural offers can visit Prösels Castle, the local art gallery as well as numerous churches and chapels. Atop the sunny Peterbühel hill near the village sits the picturesque Chapel of St Peter, which is visible from far away. Every two years, Fiè hosts the Schlern Music Festival.

The 3,500 inhabitants of the municipality of Fiè allo Sciliar are divided into approximately 14 village districts. The village lies nestled in meadows and forests on a plateau below the majestic Sciliar massif, the local landmark. The village also offers recreational and sport activities. Many different hiking tours start out at the Fiè lake. The San Vigilio golf course as well as the Alpe di Siusi cable car are less than a ten-minute drive away. Not quite as nearby yet still easy to reach by car or public transport are the cities of Bolzano, Bressanone and Merano.
